2019, Lesvos, Short Term Missions:

Thursday and Friday

Thursday and Friday were the last days at the All4Aid center and Moria camp. The shower curtain painting inspired creating a wall painting and some women and children helped paint. How sweet it was to work on making the center more beautiful together! The crochet hooks were pulled out and none of the women who chose to participate needed any guidance or instruction but created what they wanted or needed. Giving these women and children a chance to have a creative outlet was a sweet thing to be able to do. Just like most of the week with the Afghani women, we did not have much direct communication, but seeing their hands at work, you can see glimpses of what life back home included. One crocheting mama had a 5 year old with her and was 6 and a half months pregnant. Special prayers were prayed for God to hold this little girl in His arms like a little lamb, and to gently guide her mama (Isaiah 40:11), as Laura blew bubbles with the girl, also being 6 months pregnant with a 5 year old girl.

Thursday evening, there was a woman sitting by the edge of the road holding a new born baby in her arms as we were leaving Moria camp after serving dinner. It was such a blessing for us to see the baby, sleeping so contentedly, wrapped in a warm white blanket. The young mother was excited when she discovered Lana speaks Arabic and we asked her to share her story. She arrived on Lesvos one month prior from Eritrea. Her husband was stuck in Turkey and unable to travel with her because of some missing paperwork. After giving birth, she was given an apartment to share in Mytilene, rather than being placed back in the camp immediately with a newborn. Lana asked if we could pray for her and the the baby and she agreed. We prayed in Jesus’ name in Arabic and English: for an army of angels to protect this young mother and her little baby boy. She had tears in her eyes and was thankful for the prayers. We invited her to come to the All4Aid center to do some laundry and bathe her baby boy. God is good and we are humbled to watch Him at work in many lives that we came across.
