Hospitality Action Steps

Posted by Calvary Communications on

Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
Romans 12:13

We are instructed throughout the Bible to be people who are hospitable. As we saw in Sunday's message, this is simply putting a spirit of kindness into action. If you’re ready to take the next step in this practice, we have a few options for you.

Are you just beginning to entertain the idea of practicing hospitality? Lunch{together} might be the next right step for you! This opportunity  is focused on simply inviting someone over to your home for a meal. Our goal is to put kindness in action and intentionally invest in relationships with those in our church family. We’ve even put together packets full of helpful hints, recipes, carry-out recommendations, conversation cards, etc. to help facilitate your time together. For more information or to get a lunch{together} packet, contact Elaine Lohroff at ext. 5903.

Neighbors International
Neighbors International helps connect American families with international students studying in the Grand Rapids area. If you’re regularly practicing hospitality with those in our church family but want to go to the next level, Friendship Families/Partners are needed to befriend international college students by sharing their time, life and concern for a student so that they may experience the love of Jesus Christ. To sign up or for more information on how you can befriend a student arriving this fall, contact at 340-2568.

Language Café
Every Thursday evening, a small group of volunteers from Calvary gather at Arnie’s on Leonard Street to see who God will bring to the Language Café. The Café is open to anyone who is a non-native English speaker wanting some conversational English practice. The Café is an informal, relaxed setting with games like chess and checkers to get conversation going, as well as suggested talking points and questions. Gary and Linda Rodenburg, the leaders of the Café, make sure everyone has a cupcake or French fries (a favorite with our guests), and coffee or tea as everyone spends time together talking.

If you’re looking for an opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and begin regularly interacting with strangers, this is a great opportunity to practice hospitality. Email to volunteer as a conversation partner. No experience or skill is necessary other than a love of people and a willingness to help them learn.
