Urban Family Ministries began in the late 1990s with a very simple goal…. to become involved in ministry to the poor, in order to build relationships and be the presence of Jesus Christ, sharing His life-transforming hope, love and power.
Through a desire to understand the needs of urban children, UFM began by contacting a local urban elementary school and asking, “How can we help you?” The principal welcomed the help both on the playground and in the classrooms. It didn’t take long for relationships to begin and grow with the children and their teachers. Soon, an after-school Bible Club was started that served 80% of the children at that school. The involvement at the school has given volunteers many opportunities to mentor these children and share the Gospel with them. And through the children, their families are also hearing about Jesus. Today, through more than a dozen different programs, hundreds of children and their families are reached on a weekly basis.
We are partnering with UFM again this year to stock the shelves of their Christmas Shoppe – a place where the families they minister to can buy new gifts at deeply discounted prices. There are now two ways to contribute to the Shoppe:
- Bring your new, unwrapped gifts to UFM, located at 543 Eastern Ave SE (Baxter Street entrance).
- Shop their Amazon Christmas Wish List. Gifts purchased on Amazon will be delivered directly to UFM.
- Drop-off your gifts during MOPS (Tuesdays, November 29 & December 6, 9:00-11:15am, Ada Bible Knapp Campus). Look for the trailer in the parking lot.
Gifts will be accepted through December 9. Call Noelle at 560-5767 for more information.
