God is leading each of us on our own unique journey. Recently, I met Sarah Stacilauskas, a Grand Rapids resident who's story is full of "only God could have..." moments. Sarah is the founder of Healing Eyes, a local 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that seeks to bring God's love to orphans in Africa. Sarah writes:
There is a school in Uganda near the Kenyan border that was started by a man with a heart for disabled and orphaned children. The church on the school land is made up of widows who also have the heart for orphans. There are over 185 orphans attending this school in conditions unthinkable. One classroom is a tree, another is literally some sticks, the building is straw and mud with a partial roof where children kneel in thick mud and fall victim to diseases and ringworm. Many of the children are infected with HIV and suffer malnutrition.
Healing Eyes hopes to partner with the school and assist with the infrastructure needed, school supplies, desks, teacher salaries, and training for the widows to find employment. Above all our hope is to bring compassion back to this remote village and show God’s love for orphans and widows.
Project 6’16 will launch in June 2016 to bring hope to the orphans through building relationships, classrooms, connections with locals, and building hope.
Healing Eyes is hosting a benefit concern in September to raise funds to help this school. I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity!
