2025, Kentucky, Short Term Missions:

2025 Kentucky: 10/01/25 – Day 4

Our third full workday in David, Kentucky, brought both surprises and steady progress as we hit the mid-point of our mission week.

Some of the team broke off to haul several trailer loads of trash and debris to the dump and make a much-needed supply run. On that trip, God gave us a special gift. While at Lowe’s, we literally ran into Gary—the homeowner we served last year. The reunion was filled with immense joy and gratitude, a reminder that God’s timing is perfect. Gary shared that he has kept our team’s card on his refrigerator and thinks of us often. What a blessing to see how God continues to work long after our tools are packed up.

House 3 – Dennis & Teresa’s Home
When flooding struck Dennis and Teresa’s home, they had 14 inches of water throughout their entire house. Much of the home has already been repaired, and now our team is working on the final room—the bathroom. Today we began the difficult work of tearing out 24 inches of drywall, removing the vanity, washer/dryer, toilet, water heater and insulation, and starting mold remediation.

House 2 – Carolyn’s Home
Work also pressed ahead at Carolyn’s home. Drywall began going up in several rooms, and work on the outdoor stairs was started with support poles being cemented into place. Setbacks continued in the master bathroom, however, as the new water heater would not fit in the original space—meaning another wall will need to come down. Despite that challenge, there was encouraging progress: drywall was installed in the Master bathroom and a new tub went in and a shower enclosure was set in place in her son’s bathroom.

And a special shoutout goes to Andy, who won the “dirtiest job” award for crawling under the trailer to assist with plumbing work.

Many in the group are beginning to feel the physical and emotional fatigue from the hard work, as well as the weight of seeing the rough living conditions and poor health of the homeowners. Yet, even in the weariness, we are buoyed by the camaraderie of our team and the joy of witnessing how God is moving in powerful ways. As we reach the halfway point of this trip, we are reminded again that God is at work not only in the homes we’re repairing, but also in the hearts and lives of everyone involved.

We ask for your continued prayers—that God would provide the energy, materials, and time needed to complete all the work by Friday.

“Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9
