2025, Kentucky, Short Term Missions:

2025 Kentucky: 10/02/25 – Day 5

Our fourth full workday in David, Kentucky, was another busy one as we pressed forward on both Carolyn’s and Dennis’ homes.

House 2 – Carolyn’s Home
Progress continues at Carolyn’s house. Today the team finished demoing the master bathroom, removed the old water heater, and installed a new subfloor. In her son’s bathroom, everything has been completed except for closing the shower access panel—we’ll do that tomorrow once we confirm there are no leaks.

We were also able to lay down new carpet padding in the areas where we had repaired the floors and then reinstalled the carpeting. On the exterior, the stairs were finished and temporary rails installed to test for proper height for Carolyn and her son. The final step will be rebuilding the garbage bin, which had rotted through. Carolyn’s sister and brother-in-law shared that the new stairs were an answered prayer—they will allow them better access to her home so they can assist her more easily.

While we were there, Carolyn mentioned that her washer had stopped working. After confirming it wasn’t a water line issue but the washer itself, the team unanimously decided to bless her with a brand-new washer—a gift that will make her daily life a little easier.

House 3 – Dennis & Teresa’s Home
At Dennis’ home, new drywall was installed and mudded, the water heater was removed, and plumbing was set up for the new vanity and replacement water heater. The toilet was also switched out, moving their bathroom one step closer to being functional again.

Prayers Needed
We also learned today that John Green, the project manager at St. Vincent’s, will be taking his 5-month-old son, Jace, into surgery tomorrow morning at 6:00 a.m. Our team took up a collection and gave him a card to remind him that his son is being lifted up in prayer. We ask that you join us in praying for Jace—for steady hands for the doctors, a smooth recovery, and peace for John and his family.

Looking Ahead
There’s still a lot left to do in both homes, and time is running short. We ask for your prayers that the Lord would give us strength, energy, and focus to complete the most critical tasks—ensuring both families have hot and cold running water and fully operational bathrooms before we leave. It’s likely that finishing work such as painting and flooring will need to be left for other volunteer teams who will continue serving through St. Vincent’s Mission.

We trust God to multiply our efforts and provide exactly what is needed in His perfect timing.
