Camp Serve is amazing! The first day, I got to see what Calvary’s Financing Department (pretty sure that’s what it’s called) was like, and even got to experience it. Afterwards, I got a behind-the-scenes look at Sunday services… I got a tour of the recently built tech room, used to control all the cameras in the sanctuary, as well as livestreams. After lunch, which was sandwiches and soup made by the kids on the kitchen crew, my group and I went to Ardo’s house; Ardo is a staff member at Calvary. There, due to his bad back, we assisted him with bringing loads of stuff from his barn to a trailer, ranging from sections of thin pipe to a refrigerator. I took a lot of photographs. Later, following much heavy lifting… and possibly jumping out of a barn loft… we went out for an early dinner at McDonald’s. That night we decided to play Infection… (or Zombie Tag, or Zombie Apocalypse, whatever you want to call it) in the dark. It was pretty fun, partially because I was rarely tagged, having found the best hiding spot.
Today we did interviews in the tech room for the video we are making about Camp Serve. We even managed to snag Batman for an interview…. At lunch, we went to Grand Rapids Township Park for a picnic with the refugee families sponsored by Calvary Church. Then at dinnertime, we ate Chick-Fil-A with the Go-Getters, the special needs ministry, and joined them in small group and worship. Currently, The Jungle Book (the live-action remake) is set up for people to watch if they want, and the gym is open too. Tomorrow, Camp Serve ends at 4pm, and I am looking forward to it since I will be getting home, but also kind of sad, since I got to see my friends.
