October 24 | 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
In this year’s meeting we will:
- Thank God for the gift of His grace over the past year;
- Review a financial update from the deacons;
- Select new elders;
- Vote on an addition to the church constitution;
- Look forward to the year ahead;
- Have a time of Q&A.
All Calvary attendees are encouraged to attend, however only members may vote. Absentee Ballots for the selection of elders are available at the Welcome Center for those unable to attend. Childcare will be provided (birth through age three), please register in advance so we can have sufficient volunteers available. If you consider Calvary to be your home church, this meeting is for you!
The minutes from last year’s meeting are available here, for your review prior to this year’s meeting.
In 2017 the role of Lead Pastor was created to provide Pastor Tom Olsson with shared leadership and administration of the church alongside Senior Pastor Jim Samra. This move was both a recognition of Pastor Tom’s gifting and an opportunity for Calvary Church to be guided with a fuller spectrum of leadership. Tom’s service as Lead Pastor has been a gift to our church and we are grateful for God’s provision in this area.
In order to provide formality to this vital staff position and give direction to how the role functions, the Elders are proposing to add the following to Calvary’s constitution:
“At the request of the Senior Pastor, the Elders may appoint a Lead Pastor of Calvary Church. The Lead Pastor shall be selected by the Senior Pastor. The responsibility of the Lead Pastor is to assist the Senior Pastor in his role, with the two of them working together as partners to help lead the church and staff. The Lead Pastor shall meet the criteria set forth in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9, which is also presented in Article V, Section C of the Calvary Church Constitution. The Lead Pastor can become a non-voting Elder of the church by recommendation of the Senior Pastor and ratification by two-thirds vote of the Elder Board. The Lead Pastor can be moved out of his roles as Elder and Lead Pastor by the Senior Pastor.”
This provision would be inserted in Article VI of the Constitution as a new Section B (3), to follow B (2) governing Duties of Other Pastoral Staff. As with any change to the church constitution, this proposed revision must be approved by the members of the church. We plan to hold this vote at the Annual Meeting on October 24.
If you have any questions for the Elders regarding this change, they will be available for questions in the Gathering Place during the 9:00am service on October 10 and the 10:45am service on October 17. You may also email firstname.lastname@example.org.
