2019, Glyfada, Short Term Missions:

Glyfada- Settling In

What a day it has been!

We were able to start the day working at Glyfada Church. We helped clean out a storage space, and began setting up for Vacation Bible School. Our time there was very encouraging because we were able to see so many plans for the event come together and get excited for all of the kids we get to meet tomorrow!

While the rest of the team was at the church, Jim and Tammy were able to meet with the pastor of a Persian Evangelical church in Athens. They discussed the trials that his ministry faces, and were blown away by his passion for sharing the gospel with his community.

We finished the day at Glyfada Church’s Cultural Night, where refugees from their Voula House played traditional Iranian music and served us Syrian and Iranian food. It was truly amazing to be able to meet the refugees that are family to this church, and be served by them. We had rich conversations with brothers and sisters in Christ that had fled due to persecution, as well as non-Christians, with whom we pray conversations will continue throughout the week. Our team agreed that after a rather difficult day, this dinner was a perfect way to end, as meeting these families put many things in perspective for us.

We have faced many unexpected trials today that resulted in some change of plans, but are resting assured that God’s plans for us here are good and that attacks will not stand against the powerful and wonderful name of Jesus Christ. Please be praying for our team as we begin VBS programs tomorrow, and work through some lingering uncertainties from today.

Pictures to come!
