Kalamazoo 2018: Day One Update

Our first day of work projects is in the books! We spent the morning serving at Ministry With Community. They operate a day shelter in downtown Kalamazoo that provides social services, free laundry, breakfast and lunch. The kids picked up trash around the facility, washed windows, sprayed down their patio, and helped in the community garden. After eating lunch we headed about a mile away to a community fruit garden operated by Jackie’s aunt, Sally.

The kids helped add mulch, pull weeds and transplant wild strawberries. They also got to learn a little more about this historic Kalamazoo neighborhood and its residents.

It was an incredibly hot and humid day. We treated the kids to ice cream after all their hard work outside. Then they got to come back to camp for time in the lake.

We’ll be back with more photos of their evening activities later!
