Language Café

Calvary’s Language Café is a chance for you to meet some really interesting people! As disciples of Christ, we are called not just to reach out, but also to invite in and to continue to make Calvary a welcoming and hospitable place. The Language Café is a perfect opportunity for non-native English speakers to come to Calvary and find friendly people in the Gathering Place willing to help them practice their English-speaking skills. The relationships and the comfort with Calvary Church that Language Café participants experience helps them feel welcome attending our services or other activities we offer. Language Café volunteers get to know each participant as they see them week after week in this safe and welcoming environment. Participants can develop friendships that open deeper conversations around questions like “Who is Jesus?”, “Why does Calvary look like it does?” and “Why do Calvary people seem different?”

Do you know someone who wants to improve their English and who could benefit from an invitation to come enjoy the Language Cafe? Invite them to join us or bring them the first time or two! The people you invite do not have to be currently attending Calvary or from a Christian background. It’s simply an opportunity for a non-native English speaker to get to know kind and caring people who enjoy listening and speaking. Please feel free to extend an invitation to anyone you interact with – we’d love to have them join us!

With the New Year, the Language Café is now meeting on Thursdays from 6:30-8:00pm in the Gathering Place, entrance B. If you have any questions or would like to give us a heads-up that you’ve invited someone to attend, send the leaders Gary & Linda Rodenburg an email at languagecafe@calvarygr.org or call 956-9377, ext. 5093.

Note: We are having our annual Language Café bowling night on January 23 which would be a great time for a non-native English speaker to come and meet other participants and volunteers. Please email Gary & Linda with the name and native language of the person you have invited. You’ll get all the details for this fun event in a return email.
