Being Easter Monday in the Greek Orthodox church, All4Aid women and children’s center was closed to the women and children. We were instead able to see the space which has a laundry room, shower facilities, toddler play area, baby bathing station, and small shop for women to “purchase” essentials on a rotating basis. We had time to organize the many supplies (3 suitcases full – thanks Nancy!!) for pampering the women and map out the kids’ activities.

Since this is not the only holiday this week, but Wednesday is also off for May Day, we will be spending more time than originally planned in Moria camp serving meals. We were able to walk around the camp which has different levels of security for unaccompanied minors, single adult women, and families. Meals are served to men and women separately, with a specific line for pregnant women. Being 6 months pregnant myself, I (Laura) have prayed specifically for pregnant women I will come in contact with. It was awesome to see some of the women I have prayed for all in one place! The food distribution “box” has room for three of the six of us to serve at any one meal, so for lunch today, three of our team stayed to serve lunch, and three went to the women’s and children’s center. At this time, most of the camp population is currently Afghani and it is not uncommon for them to speak some English which will help all of us, and take some responsibility off of Lana to translate stories and facilitate connections.

Yesterday as we were preparing for our week, trying to envision what it will be like, we were encouraged by some resident missionaries that our work is not in vain, no matter how little impact we may see or even feel. These people are in an extremely vulnerable position. They are  still lacking safety and their hope to be free from whatever they are fleeing is illusive. For us to have the Holy Spirit in us, empowering us to shine and share Jesus’ light, is tilling the soil. Our presence may be the first interaction they have with a follower of Jesus Christ and God works mysteriously, even as we are sleeping (Mark 4). So we hold on to Christ’s hope and pray for true freedom through Jesus Christ for these people now or further on in their journey.

Thank you also for your prayers – they are felt! Please continue to pray as our work will become more intense starting Tuesday.
