On Palm Sunday, Jesus challenges our ideas of what it means to be a king. In Matthew 21:1-11, Jesus exercises his divine authority and great gentleness. We are confronted with constructing a king who meets our own conditions. Instead, we are called to submit not only to the triumphal Jesus, but to the authoritative and suffering Jesus as well.
