2019, Tanzania, Short Term Missions:

Tanzania Team – Work at MBI Continues

Jambo from Mwanza,

Today we completed our fourth day at the Mwanza Bible Institute. Joseph (head of MBI) had car trouble in the morning, which prevented him from arriving at the institute in time for the morning sessions. This created some challenges for us, but it proved a great opportunity to be flexible. The teaching, carpentry, and computer-related projects are all progressing smoothly overall— thanks be to God. The sessions with the children are also going well: Brian “totally rocked” his presentation on the wordless book this morning.

Outside of the main entrance to the institute, there is a plaque to the left side of the doorway.

Joseph told me that a government official wrote the plaque for the building.

In English, it reads:

“This foundation stone for this building of Mwanza Bible Institute was put here by the honorable John Mongella who is the commissioner of Mwanza province in partnership with guests of T.A.T [Tanzania Advisory Team] from Calvary Church in the USA on 16/11/2018”

I thought it was cool to see the partnership Calvary has with MBI displayed in this way. Seeing the plaque for the first time made me smile, reminding me of my church home in a far country. We’re definitely praying that God will keep using this facility to train and equip his people here in Mwanza, and that the partnership with Calvary continues to be positive.

Update on the son of our interpreters: he is still recovering, but is doing much better than before. The situation was quite serious and the doctors actually at one point didn’t believe he would live— praise God that he is on the mend instead.

Tomorrow is our last day at the institute, and we very much appreciate your prayers that we would finish up our time well. Pray especially that our brothers and sisters here would grow deeper in their knowledge of scripture and of the God that we serve.

Blessings upon you, dear readers.
