Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner

This passage tells of a wealthy man who plans an expensive banquet and on the day of the banquet all of his guests cancel their RSVP for superficial reasons.  Rather than cancel the banquet the man extends his invitation to the poor and then to those who live outside of the city.  There are many people who hear about Christ easily because of where they live or who their family is.  Many of these people though choose to reject the invitation of Christ.  However Jesus does not cancel the banquet but instead he makes the banquet open to anyone who will come.  This reminds us first of all to actually accept Christ’s invitation and also to make sure to extend the invitation to all of those who wouldn’t normally receive or accept his invitation.
