In the parable of the Good Samaritan, we see Jesus turn the question – what is the minimum amount required – on its head. The Samaritan wasn’t required to love the man who was robbed, he wanted to love him. The Samaritan didn’t ask what is the minimum that I have to do – that’s what the priest and the Levite asked. The Samaritan asks, the true Christian question, what is the most that I can do and still meet the other obligations God has laid upon me. The true Christian does not ask, what is the minimum amount required, but what is the maximum amount possible.
