Mothering Sunday

Often, Christians are called upon to make choices between non-Christian relatives and the relationships they have with the Christians they are sharing life with. God gave us earthly mothers and it is important that we love, honor and care for them. Jesus did all of this for his mother Mary but when he was dying he had to entrust her care to others. Jesus tasked one of his disciples with this rather than his actual brothers. Jesus did this because he knows that relationships built on Christ are stronger and more important. In that vein, while parents are important, of greater importance and greater honor is the roll of spiritual parent. This passage calls us to seek out spiritual parents and to look to be spiritual parents to others.
