Ministry Information
High School Ministry – HSM for short – is Calvary’s youth group for those in 9th-12th grade. We exist to connect students to meaningful community with their peers (& awesome adult leaders), and to encourage them to know and follow Jesus for themselves. We also believe in having as much FUN as possible while pursuing those two goals.
We meet on Sunday evenings from 6:30-8:30pm in room 208. Enter through Entrance D.
During your time at HSM, you will be led in worship through song by an incredible, student-led worship band, enjoy a fun game or activity, hear a relevant message from God’s Word, and conclude our time together in small group discussion.*
* Small groups will meet during HSM this year from 7:45-8:30pm in breakout rooms in or near our student space.

We hope you’ll join us for “Overtime” hangout each Sunday after HSM, where the goal is simply to have a blast building community through a variety of planned activities.

Ministry Focus for 2023-24
Our theme this year at HSM is ‘Ohana: No Longer Tossed by the Waves.
As you may recall from the Disney movie Lilo & Stitch, “‘Ohana” means “family” in Hawaiian. The idea for this year’s theme comes from Ephesians 4:11-16.
The world we live in is often difficult and overwhelming, fraught with both great hardships and innumerable competing truth claims. The storms of life & the volume of voices so certain that that the way of the world is right can threaten to blow us off course.
BUT when we understand what it means to be a part of God’s family, “his Ohana,” it changes everything. We have a purpose, God has a plan, and we have a solid place to stand — a place where we belong — as members of God’s family. We are loved, we are delighted in, and we are called…TOGETHER.
So come and experience the power of belonging with us this year at HSM, because when we do this thing together, as ‘Ohana, we will no longer be tossed by the waves.

HSM: Senior Celebration | 7:45pm-9:30pm
Graduating seniors, this mini-event is just for you! Join us at HSM as you regularly do at 6:30pm, where we will recognize, celebrate, and encourage you during our HSM service. Following large group (around 7:35pm), we’ll load into Calvary vans and head off site to enjoy a delicious meal together in celebration of our seniors. In addition to a memorable evening with friends, you’ll have the opportunity to get to know Jon Nuenke and the YA team as they join us for dinner. We’ll have you back to Calvary and conclude our time together by no later than 9:30pm.
HSM: Detroit Day Trip | 8:00am-7:00pm
Join us for a day full of adventure in Detroit on Saturday, May 4! We’ll hike the scenic River Walk, eat good food, and explore downtown shops and museums together.

HSM: Senior Steal | 6:30pm-9:00pm
Graduating Seniors, this mini-event is just for you! On this night, you’ll come to 208 at 6:30pm as you regularly do for HSM, but you won’t be staying! Instead, you’ll meet up with Jon Nuenke and the YA ministry team who will whisk you away for an exciting evening of adventure & hanging out to get to know him & the team better in preparation of transitioning to Calvary’s YA ministry. You’re guaranteed to get VIP treatment and have a blast, all while making memories with friends old & new! Make sure you’re attending HSM & small group throughout the month of April to be in the loop as to what’s going on! Jon will have you back at Calvary Church by 9pm.

We are having a garage sale at Calvary Church to help our high school students raise money for a mission trip to Hawaii this summer. The team of 28 students and five leaders will partner with Praying Pelican Ministries and local organizations to help with the fire cleanup in Maui and to engage in relational ministry with families displaced by the 2023 fires. We invite you to support the team by bringing donations of gently used items in good condition during the drop-off times, and of course shopping at the actual event!
