Generosity, Giving
The story of Abraham giving Melchizadek a tenth of his plunder is the first example in the Bible of tithing. In the story, God had promised Abraham that He would watch over Him and bless Him, and Melchizadek reminds Abraham of the fact that God is giving him a taste of this blessing, even though the promises had not yet been fully realized.
Abraham’s response is giving, not because he has to, but out of gratitude for God’s incredible generosity and blessing. This theme repeats itself throughout the Bible in connection with giving. Gratitude is always the best motivation for generosity.
