Submission, Suffering
Jesus gave his disciple the name Peter (or “the rock”) when they first meet not because of who he was then, but because of who he would become over time. Peter went from being a hard-headed stumbling block to being foundational in the church of Jesus Christ. This kind of transformation is what is promised to all believers. Through the Holy Spirit, the truth of the gospel, through suffering and our participation in community, God will change us into new creations.
