Finding Rest For Our Souls

In this sermon we read in Matthew 11:20-30 as Jesus rebukes Chorazin and Bethsaida for their lack of repentance and in response states that the truths of life are hidden from the learned and given to the little children. We are reminded that God blesses us with the person of Jesus who is simple and kind when our lives are engulfed in the complexity and brokenness of the world. We are also reminded that this person, Jesus, gives us an invitation to come and know him deeply instead of simply learning about him.

Day 7

In Genesis 2 we learned that God has created rest. Rest (or Sabbath) is a means by which we get to enjoy God’s creation and ultimately, God Himself. Rest is not about doing, but about being. Ultimately, Day 7 is not about what God produces, but who God is.

Rest

God’s perfect rest is waiting for His people in heaven: a place of resting from stress, anxiety and labor. It is not a place of inactivity, but of rest from toil, stress and struggle. The peace of God that we are able to experience now points us toward that perfect, final rest. Jesus came to lead us to God’s rest and He wants you to come and experience it in part now, but fully with Him at the end of the journey.
